I use a couple different color variations with spinnerbaits.

If the water is muddy, and/or a lot of bream are around, I'll use a chartreuse/blue skirt, chartreuse, or black.

If the water has some "stain" to it (isn't real muddy), I'll use white, or white with chartreuse.

If the water's fairly clear, and/or there are shad around, I'll use a clearer skirt with silver/blue metalflake.

Also, the weight of the spinnerbait can make a BIG difference especially in the winter or early spring. I knew this from years ago, but it was proven out by another guy in a bass tournament yesterday. His bass averaged over 3 lbs. each. Most of the bigger fish were between 10' and 20' deep on the lake I was on yesterday. Needless to say, I didn't catch them with my "light weight" spinnerbait, but the other guy certainly did!!!

That's true, color isn't the only thing I look for in a spinnerbait. As for weight, I'll throw anything from 1/8 oz to 3/4 oz, depending on the water depth and size/type of blades(s).

If the water's really muddy, I'll use a single or tandem with colorado blades. Most of the time I'll use double willow leaf blades. If the water is tannic acid colored, I like gold blades, or 1 silver, 1 gold. In clearer water I go with silver blades.
